I'd look to rent a house, there's a lot of small to medium size houses near the base. I was stationed there in the early to mid 1980s and had plenty of fun off-duty. My job sucked due to horrible management, but they had a decent automotive scene and if you like outdoor stuff, you're good to go. Also, close to Memphis and not too far from Dallas for big city stuffs...
