RSW and M & F Auto Sales presents a full schedule of racing for next year!!! Im really excited to announce that we will be having our own events that will include road course racing, autocross, and drifting all at the same time. M & F Auto Sales on Coors Road has been kind enough to sponsor these events and make them possible. Thanks Mike & Fadi. Road Course / Auto-x:We will have one track that utilizes both types of driving all in one lap. This will cater to both types of drivers who are used to driving tight, slower tracks as well drivers who are used to driving wider, faster tracks. We will incorporate turns 1-6 on the road course and then use the return road as part of the course to enter back onto the paved open area, where we will make a small 3 or 4 turn auto-x course that will test your car on slow, tight, fast, and also sweeping turns. We will have timing equipment that will allow us to have a start/finish line wherever we please. We will have 4 different classes for racing. 3 will be for cars and 1 will be a go kart/shifter kart class. The 3 classes will be fairly lax on what is allowed and what is not. We will do this to hopefully get each person in the proper class where they can be competitive. Even though these are just for fun, we will have a points system and keep track of everyones points over the course of the season. If these are a success, there will be prizes given at the end of the year for different accomplishments for each class. We will allow completely stock cars with drivers that have never been on a course before all the way to full race cars and experienced drivers. We will cap the number of drivers allowed to come if we get too many as I want to make sure everyone gets a lot of track time. Drifting:We will have the outer and inner oval to ourselves. We will have a course layout and this will be a practice, not a competition. There are no plans for judging or competing at this time, but its possible for future events. There will be tandem action allowed but there will be further safety necessities done to the car as well as driver experience before given the go-ahead for tandem drifting. AJ Tires will be on hand for as many of the dates as they can possibly make it out to for our convenience of changing tires. We will have tons of track time, I promise. Spectators:Each paid driver will be allowed (1) person to enter with them for FREE!!! They will only be FREE if they come at the same time as you, not later to meet you there. All other spectators are $5 and that includes pit passes, being able to walk and spectate pretty much anywhere. All spectators are also allowed to ride along in cars with drivers as long as the vehicle passes tech. for the passenger side and the passenger has a helmet. Passengers are NOT allowed during tandem drifting, no exceptions. Tech:Tires must show good tread and cannot be corded, All front seatbelts must be in working order. Harnesses are ok as long as they are mounted correctly, Battery must have a tie down, and positive terminal must be covered. All wheel bearings must be free of play, Steering system must be in good working order and should not be loose, No leaking fluids, All lug nuts must be present, All body panels must be attached securely to the car. RSW aka Will is putting over $1000 on the line for these events. In other words, we must have a lot of people support these or they will never happen again for us. We will need volunteers and corner workers. Those people will be let in FREE and might get something else out of it. Please volunteer as we will need at least 5 full time helpers for these events. Thanks guys, and please support the cheapest track time you can get. Flier made by Travis. Thank you Travis.A big thanks to all who have helped so far to make it work. Mike Sepulveda, Jerred(cloud1918), Travis, Will Pre-registration now available!!!paypal@racingsouthwest.com Please give your full name and please give me full details on your car so we can set up the data base.

This is excellent news! I foresee HUGE turnouts with a price to track time ratio like that.

For the autox classes why not just used the scca classes? I am sure you have thought of this but it seems that it will be hard to fairly group everyone in three classes... That is a good question, and yes we did think about that. What we are afraid of is only having 15 people come out, then each group would have 2 or 3 people. Not much fun competition wise. Also, a lot of people on RSW have lots of mods, but not necessarily ones that will make them a lot faster on a course or the experience. With SCCA classing, this will put a lot of cars WAY out of their league and we hope to be able to make a judgemental call while teching to see where the car should be. We don't want a stock saturn that has an intake and thats it, to all of the sudden be in a class with modded EVO's and STI's etc. just because of one modification that does almost nothing. So really, we are hoping that people who dont typically run SCCA, can actually have fun and compete with the guys who are very experienced and have proper alignments for racing, etc... Maybe Jerred(Cloud1918) can help fill us in when he gets the classes ready. Thats his job.

This is pretty cool. I've started building my little car for these now. Kinda weird huh..... Started putting all new suspension on it last weekend especially for some cornering action. As well as making sure everything else is up to par for some hard driving. I do have one question though. Safety requirements. I know NHRA ones, but what are the differences for this type of racing? I've got a 4pt bar in the car, battery is in the trunk fastened properly, fuel cell back there as well. Has a firewall back there to seperate from the cockpit etc etc. The car is a vert of course. Is there some sort of speed limitation for vert chassis cars or how is that decided when you need more cage etc? Car also has 5pt harnesses on the cage. Maybe this should be made into a seperate thread?

Maybe this should be made into a seperate thread? To be honest, these types of events don't really have many rules for tech inspections. SMS actually asked us if we were going to tech and if so, do we want to do it or have them do it. The inspections for this type of racing really is fairly lax and not hard fast rules like in sanctioned racing. Your battery in the trunk is fine as long as its tied down securely. No cage is necessary at all for anyone except drifting tandem, so you'll be fine there. Really, as stated above, use common sense with stuff and you'll be fine. We won't be nazi's about stuff, we just want everyone to be safe.

To be honest, these types of events don't really have many rules for tech inspections. That's not exactly true outside of albuquerque. It all depends on what you insurance requires and how much personal liability you are willing to take on as an organizer/sactioning body. The safety section of the roadracing GCR for the SCCA used to be about 10 pages in the 60s. Now it's a couple hundred pages, it didn't grow because people like making up random rules.
