So I got a voicemail this week from a police detective...
First thing I thought, was how fast I could format my Hard drives..
But it was a referral for some new pc/network setup stuff.

I went down to 5th and Roma and started setting up.
After listening to these guys talk for an hour, I realized they are regular guys.
I started talking to the detective about Marty and his new rules.
He stated that the cameras are a pain in the ass, are too much money, and that many of his peers have been ticketed as well.
When the cops get a ticket, they have to pay it as well, even in a marked on duty car.
If you fight the ticket as a cop, you go in front of a board (IA type) for review.
EDIT: He also told me that he used to be able to go to a crime scene from his house to his work district in 4 or 5 minutes (late night on call) now he has to drive 45mph and it takes him 12 minutes. He could speed, but he will be audited and reviewed. So he goes the speed limit. (is that protecting and serving?)
He also told me that taxing and ticketing citizens is a waste of his time. In his words: when youre giving a soccer mom or young kid a ticket for going 7mph over the limit, you arent out busting the real criminals. And that citizen you just ticketed, is the one voting for bonds and elected officials next year...

It was very enlightening to hear these opinions from the "enemy"

No really though; we already know how APD feels as they are most of the bloggers on 'the eye' and I think it is written by an officer or someone close to it.

Yeah, detectives have played a big part in my life. I'm very grateful to the police that actually aren't there just to pick on people.

I have family who has spent much time high up in APD in the past and has expressed similar issues about Marty's ticketing for revenue policy.

Spooledup Its the same cops on montgomery that respond to your calls for auto thefts, house break ins, murders, stabbing shootings etc. They do all the investigative work get people in custody, write up all the reports. After all that work is done then it might be forwarded on to a detective. Your view on calling a Detective "real" cops is true to the extent that yes, they are sworn officers, however they are not the only ones that go around solving crimes. If this were the case there would be a lot less people in jail. The cops are not there on montgomery because they have nothing better to do. They are there because people in those communities along Montgomery have complained about noise and as "tax paying Citizens" they have demanded that the Mayor and chief do something about the issue. So cops have no choice but to go around writing bullshit tickets and towing cars so that the mayor and shultz can go back to those citizens and say "look at the progress that we're making keep us in office keep supporting us".

The Owl Thank you for posting something positive about the police officers that work our streets. Yes, it is true that they are responsible for paying their own red light camera tickets. What is great about a lot of these men and woman is that they will face having to go in front of the board "IA" to defend themsevles. They are here to "protect and serve" and if they get a ticket they get a ticket. This isn't to say that 100% of cops follow 100% of the laws at all time and some of those tickets are not justified. I'm not going to try to bullshit you guys and say they do. I can think of several guys that were enroute to a shooting that just occured and they all got zapped by that camera at san mateo/ Montgomery each and every one of them had to pay the ticket. Reguardless of the call, or if a citizens life is endanger Marty expects his officers to obey all traffic laws. Detectives have to drive the speed limit because by the time they are called out the drama is already over. Makes no sense to have a detective running code to a call after everything has settled down. This could change say in the situation of said detective being in an area of a crime that is in progress.

Travis thank you for posting that information about "THE EYE". I posted about this site several months ago. Yes, there are many officers that do post on that site. They all tend to agree in that there are not enough officers and many of them feel the same way about marty chavez and Chief shultz adn their laws that we do. Unfortunately, Shultz is one of the board members that decides whether or not officers can keep their Law enforcenment licence so many are afraid to cross him.
The most important thing to remember is that even though they carry and badge and gun they are still human.

The very topic of this thread disturbs me.

I suppose cops are viewed as the enemy, but I really have never understood why.

I guess since they don't let one smoke his marijuana, then they are the enemy.

Or maybe because we have rules regarding how fast we can safely drive on the street. Officers enforce these necessary rules so that makes them the enemy?

I say: SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL POLICE!

As far as the previous post regarding detectives driving the speed limit to a call, I'm not sure they aren't justified in driving over the speed limit (safely - not crazily). My experience is that the drama has just started and witnesses are "forgetting" and evidence might be disappearing by the minute (just my $0.02)

Except when these "regular guys" have a bad day outer people's lives get ruined. They end up dead or at a minimum have to visit the ministry of justice. I see it all the time on the news. Like that other thread on here where they murdered that guy in his car. An out of state friend of mine now has a warrant because he supposedly "copped an attitude" when APD stopped him. He couldn't make the court date (and wasted a bunch of time on the phone trying to work it out) so now he has a warrant. I doubt I can get him to visit again. I recently got stopped for no seatbelt, and when the cop asked the year of my car, I said "I think it's on the registration" which I had just handed him. So he gave me a ticket for tint too. Don't all you other guys feel safer now?
