My 2nd run was a 37.8. I don't think that I really ever came that close to a curb. The sections that I lose the most time (I believe) is the downhill left and the left into the finish.

QUOTE(21CSP @ May 14 2005, 08:57 PM) It was somewhat unnerving to see all those curb incidents this time. People actually hit the curbs! When did it happen? I left around 8:15 and I didn't think that anyone had hit any by then. What cars hit them?

QUOTE(bigred @ May 14 2005, 07:34 PM) I mustered a 38.0x. I wanted to crack into the 37s, but after coming very near some curbage on my 3rd run, I decided I'd had enough for the evening. Those that had curb incidents, how did your cars look this morning? Car is ok! No damage! I ended up leaving the church at 12:30a. Other than that, car is fine. Brian

yeah 3 people hit the curb last night (that I noticed anyway) a subaru WRX which popped 2 tires, the "drifter" car which just ran straight over the last curb just before the left down hill (messed up the front bumper but thats all i saw damaged) and brian who hit one of the lower curbs (i think) and as he said his cars basicly fine.
You guys and your 30 second times...bah to you
not really sure where i lose time but my last run of the night i screwed up the lower section somehow...i ran a 20 something split which shoulda meant a 39ish total but it just went wrong ended up with a 40.7 on that one.

The back half of that course was coned slightly differently this time. It was noticeably tighter through the "waist" section on the lower half. That much was evident by looking at it, driving it, and talking to some of the other drivers.
I left after a couple of 41 second runs, one of which was 43 after +2 seconds for taking down two cones in the section I described. Nevertheless, it was fun and the price was right.

The "drifter" car was being driven by someone else. The driver's side control arm is way past gone. The bumper, from what I had seen a few days ago, was already a little banged up.

Yeah I think 3 different people ran that "drifter" car and 2 of the 3 almost or did slam into curbs. the bumper was pretty nasty but I didn't really bother going over to a guy I didnt know and comforting him for letting someone else drive his car. though i was behind him when his car got wrecked (he was in a gray miata at the time i think) and his exact words where "oh my god i just got owned" probably looked a lot worse than it actually was, especially since it ran later that night.
maybe the lower section was just tighter than it had been last year and thats why i feel like i was slower, but i was seriously not happy with my last run of the night, I'm positive i can run faster than a 40.6 and IF everything went perfect i think i could hit 39.9 or so.
yeah i really need to do some suspension work sometime this summer

Honestly, all the suspension work isn't going to net much. Once you "master" the course, everything is in the category of diminishing returns. You are just probably very close to what your chassis can do. Only stickier tires would yield a measurable improvement, but getting them warm in just one 40 second run every hour ain't gonna do it. This is why your best chance for your fastest run is always the first one as things are at their warmest.

These past two months the course has become extremely tighter. I don't know if it's due to liability or what. They need to widen all the gates a lot. Last year was hard to hit a curb. Now, it is like they want you to hit a curb due to the tightness on it.

Well suspension is wanted on my part due to the fact that my rear wheel gap is about 5 inches and my front is close to 3 it's more or less to return to a stock look after all the weight i've pulled out. unless the new bushings help more than I expect I'll be tossing in a rear sway bar before I go after new shocks/coils.
I talked to Brian for about 2 hours saturday and from what he says i'm not in (i think it was H class) so its not like any mods i do will really hurt what class I'll be in...guess i should go look up the scca site and read the classes and rules again.
Also it was mentioned that if I go out to santa fe next weekend someone will have to ride with me for a run or three. Is this an every time I go type thing or simply the first time? reason I ask is since I'm stripped out i have to remove my fire extinguisher install my seat and seat belts (which is quite a pain since you have to torque them down so hard with the torq bit)

I wouldn't worry about classing. Worry about that once you've been racing with the SCCA for awhile before trying to tailor to a class. For now, just have fun and get faster. If you want changes for cosmetic reasons, go for it. If you want them for performance, thats another issue. Most cars when lowered are simply sacrificing shock travel which is a bad thing. This is way off topic, but I often see a car modified to go into a faster class while making modifications that actually make the car slower. One nice thing about stock, there are less adjustments you can make, meaning there are less you can set to the wrong setting. I miss stock class and will definitely buy/build my next car for it.
